The episode starts out in Seoul, 1994 in the childhood home of the main character, Park Hoon. He sees a legal complaint for a medical lawsuit in which his father, Park Cheol is the plaintiff. He soon heads off to school and sees many tanks, helicopters, and soldiers pass by. Meanwhile, Jang Seok Joo, an assemblyman at the time, visits Park Cheol and states that the lawsuit was postponed. He tells Park Cheol of the war brewing between North and South Korea and the truth behind Kim Il Sung’s “mysterious disappearance”. Kim Il Sung had a faulty heart, and if he died the Americans were waiting to bomb North Korea, which would in turn lead to an all out war between North and South Korea. The only way to stop the war according to Jang Seok Joo would be if Park Cheol, a cardiac surgeon, went up to North Korea and saved Kim Il Sung.
Park Cheol agrees and goes to North Korea. Dr. Choi, a fellow doctor at the hospital at which Park Cheol worked, takes Park Hoon up to North Korea as well. Park Cheol is threatened; he must save Kim Il Sung or his son will be killed. He is successful and together father and son start the return home. However, they are stopped in between by a North Korean soldiers. They are then taken back to North Korea. Meanwhile in South Korea, Jang Seok Joo takes credit for stopping the war, even though it was really Park Cheol’s doing. Park Hoon’s mother goes to South Korea looking for her son and is taken in by one of Jang Seok Joo’s men. Park Hoon grows up in North Korea and is trained to be a cardiac surgeon like his father.
When he first came to North Korea, he met a girl around his age named Jae Hee. She eventually becomes his girlfriend and he proposes to her. She accepts and as he goes to meet her father he finds that both she and her father were taken in by soldiers and sent to a labor camp. The episode shifts to five years later and Park Hoon is now a highly skilled sugeon. Jae Hee and her father come in as patient from a labor camp. Hoon transplants Jae Hee's father’s kidney onto her. He saves her life, but kills her father. Park Hoon is then offered to go to Budapest. He agrees to go and shows his father an escape route so they can both be free. However, Park Cheol is caught and killed on the spot.
